DMT supplies the biogas upgrading plant for the Wastewater treatment plant at Echten (NL)

A consortium of the contractors Van Hattum and Blankevoort and EQUANS will design and build a new sludge digestion installation for the waste water treatment facility at Echten (NL) on behalf of the Drents Overijsselse Delta Waterschap (WDOD). DMT supplies the biogas upgrading plant to convert biogas into biomethane and supply it to the grid.

From biogas to biomethane

“The innovative and sustainable aspect of the project is the conversion of biogas to biomethan”, says the spokesperson of the water board. This is only happening in a few places in the Netherlands. For example, the biomethane plant in the western port area (WWTP-West) of the Amstel, Gooi and Vecht water board supplied the first biomethane to the natural gas network in March 2021. This installation was commissioned by the water board and built by Waternet, in collaboration with DMT and OrangeGas.

CO₂ capture

“We expect to be able to supply approximately two million cubic metres of biomethane per year to the grid,” explains WDOD board member Marion Wichard. “That’s the average consumption of about 1,300 households. A great contribution to the energy transition. The new installation will also be built in such a way that an additional sustainable option can also be included in the future: the capture of CO₂”.  The new installation will be completed in 2024.
