DMT and Northwater (a subsidiary of Waterbedrijf Groningen and Evides) are part of the Sustainable Water Supply Delfzijl (DWD) project team. This team is working on sustainable water solutions for the industrial and port area of Delfzijl.
As industrial activities increase, so does the amount of industrial wastewater. To address this, the existing salt wastewater treatment plant is being significantly expanded with a new treatment facility for fresh wastewater. This new facility will include anaerobic treatment, which generates biogas. DMT has joined the project team to provide expertise, technology, and financing for the biogas upgrading plant.
DMT will purchase and upgrade this biogas over the next 15 years, converting it into green gas that will be fed back into the existing gas network. Notably, DMT is not only purchasing the biogas but also financing the installation, managing its operation and maintenance, and handling the sale of the green gas. As a specialist in biogas upgrading and CO2 liquefaction, DMT is taking full responsibility for the biogas, relieving Northwater of long-term concerns.
With DMT as a specialized partner, Northwater has successfully expanded its wastewater treatment with a biogas upgrading facility, without needing to invest directly or assemble a team of specialists. Through projects like this, the Delfzijl industrial and port area will soon benefit from various sustainable, forward-looking industry and wastewater solutions, including the use of biogas to support the green growth of the port area.
