Litomyšl biomethane plant – Czech Republic
First Agricultural Biomethane Plant in the Czech Republic
The Litomyšl biomethane facility is the first agricultural plant in the Czech Republic to integrate advanced biogas upgrading technology, producing 1.7 million cubic meters of biomethane annually. In partnership with DMT Environmental Technology and Hutira Green Gas, the plant processes agricultural waste into high-quality biomethane, which is injected into the gas grid and used at a nearby CNG fuelling station. This project supports the Czech Republic’s goals to replace 20% of natural gas consumption with biomethane by 2030, reducing carbon emissions and promoting a circular economy.
About the Project
The Litomyšl biomethane plant uses DMT’s Carborex®MS membrane separation technology, capable of processing up to 360 Nm³/h of raw biogas. The technology achieves over 95% methane purity from biogas containing approximately 53% methane. The facility includes a nearby CNG refueling station, making biomethane accessible for transportation, further contributing to the Czech Republic’s energy transition.
Projects Results
DMT’s Carborex®MS technology was selected for its proven efficiency, reliability, and ability to achieve high methane purity. The modular design of the system enabled seamless integration with the existing infrastructure, managed expertly by Hutira Green Gas. This ensured smooth operation and compliance with Czech and EU regulations.
Project Benefits
Sustainability: Converts agricultural waste into renewable biomethane, reducing carbon emissions and supporting a circular economy.
Energy Efficiency: Provides flexibility between using CHP systems or upgrading biogas for grid injection, maximizing resource utilization.
Regulatory Compliance: Meets EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) standards and benefits from the Czech government’s green bonus scheme, promoting biomethane production.
Green Transport: Supplies biomethane to a CNG station, supporting the transition to cleaner transportation fuels.
Conclusion
The Litomyšl biomethane plant exemplifies how innovative technology from DMT Environmental Technology and project management by Hutira Green Gas can transform local agricultural waste into a sustainable energy source. This project not only supports the Czech Republic’s renewable energy goals but also sets a benchmark for future biomethane facilities in the region. With its focus on circular economy principles and regulatory compliance, the Litomyšl plant is a model of efficiency and sustainability.
